His father was Peter Shortt - tea estate manager at Langharjan Tea Estate in Assam for 22 years.

  • Created the Tea History Collection in Banbury

  • Denys lived in Assam for his first 5 years, then in Fort Portal, Uganda and Thika in Kenya on the Ikumbi tea estate owned by Brooke Bond.

  • He went to Warwick School. Played hockey for England from age 15 to 21.
